As we get ready to celebrate Independence Day, there’s no better way to mark the holiday than gathering with family and friends to watch fireworks light up the summer sky. Here in Maryland, we’re fortunate to have some of the best 4th of July celebrations in the region, many just a short drive from home.
Whether you’re looking for a large waterfront show, a historic downtown celebration, or a relaxed park atmosphere, here’s a roundup of the top places to catch fireworks around Baltimore and Central Maryland this year.
Baltimore Inner Harbor
There’s something special about watching fireworks over the water with the city skyline as a backdrop. Festivities at the Inner Harbor begin at 6:00 p.m. with live music at the Amphitheater. The main fireworks show kicks off at 9:00 p.m., followed by a drone show over Middle Branch Park at 9:30 p.m. Arrive early to secure parking and a good spot along the promenade.
Catonsville
Known for its small-town spirit and longstanding 4th of July traditions, Catonsville hosts one of the largest Independence Day celebrations in the state. The day starts with a morning parade around 9:00 a.m., followed by family-friendly events along Frederick Road. The evening culminates with fireworks after dusk near Catonsville High School, typically drawing big community crowds.
Columbia Lakefront
If you prefer to watch fireworks over a peaceful lake, Columbia’s celebration is a perfect option. Activities begin at 5:00 p.m. with live entertainment, food vendors, and family activities at Lake Kittamaqundi. Fireworks are scheduled to launch between 9:10 and 9:20 p.m., offering beautiful reflections across the water.
Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville
For a classic park experience paired with music, Oregon Ridge’s celebration features a performance by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The evening concludes with a fireworks display on July 3rd around dusk—generally between 9:15 and 9:30 p.m. Bring a blanket, settle in on the lawn, and enjoy an evening of patriotic favorites under the stars.
Annapolis
Maryland’s capital city offers a full day of festivities, beginning with a parade through downtown at 6:30 p.m. and wrapping up with fireworks over Annapolis Harbor at approximately 9:15 p.m. Popular viewing spots include City Dock, Spa Creek, and local parks. Make a day of it by exploring the historic streets and waterfront restaurants before the show.
